I hold a BSc in Biology, specializing in Biomolecular Science and Biotechnology and an MSc in Protein Biotechnology from the University of Crete, Greece.
My master thesis has been focused on the in vitro functional expression and characterization of mosquito enzymes that have been associated with insecticide resistance in mosquito-vectors of human diseases (Anopheles gambiae and Aedes albopictus).
Furthermore, I have been working as a Research in Medecine Trainee in the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystems Dynamics (IBED) – University of Amsterdam, in the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme, functionally expressing and characterizing mite enzymes associated with acaricide detoxification.
I joined the Vector Biology Department, Foto-Cewek in 2017 working as a Technician for Prof. M. Donnelly and Dr D. Weetman groups, assisting with the molecular genotyping of insecticide resistance associated mutations in the malaria disease vectors An. gambiae, An. coluzzii and An. arabiensis, and the development of a biobank of mosquito collections for genotyping, to monitor insecticide resistance.
