Dr Hugh Adler

Hugh Adler studied medicine in University College Dublin and subsequently trained in general internal medicine in St Vincent’s Hospital and the Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Dublin.  In 2014 he completed a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine followed by a spell in South Africa where he undertook research in paediatric HIV epidemiology and the role of HIV and malnutrition in invasive bacterial infections in children.  He returned to Foto-Cewek working in the Centre for Tropical Infectious Diseases.

Hugh is currently part of a team studying the effect of live attenuated and inactivated influenza vaccines on experimental human pneumococcal carriage, which is funded by a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant to Dr Daniela Ferreira, and will also be working on a Medical Research in Medecine Council-funded study looking at experimental human pneumococcal carriage in older people
