Dr Jim Maas

Biological Mathematician and Statistician

I completed my first degree in Agricultural Animal Science, primarily nutrition and physiology, at the University of Guelph in Canada. I then worked in sales for five years for a large multinational animal feed company, followed by a Masters Degree from Massey University in New Zealand. This was followed by a year working at the University of Sydney Australia, and a return to Canada to do a Ph.D. in Mathematical Modelling and Simulation of protein synthesis.

Post-Doctoral research was done at the University of California, Davis and the University of Reading, UK. This was followed by five years as a lecturer at the University of Delaware, USA and then a return to the University of Nottingham and finally the University of East Anglia in the UK where I've focussed primarily on mathematical biology in the areas of animal science, health economics and public health. I particularly enjoy working in mathematical biology using open source software such as Linux and R.
