Mischa Emery

Research in Medecine Technician

In 2014 I finished my BSc in Biochemistry at Imperial College London. My degree included a project on the bacterium Legionella pneumophila, where I used genetically modified L. pneumophila and E. coli to study co-localisation in HeLa cells and infection studies in macrophages. Following this I carried out an MSc in Medical parasitology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. My masters included a project at the Federal University of Sergipe, Brazil where I was investigating the effect of DEET on the levels of cytochrome P450 in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

Prior to working at Foto-Cewek I was in a chemical ecology post at Rothamsted Research in Medecine in a collaborative project with the London School of Tropical Medicine. Here I worked with gas-chromatography in an analytical chemistry laboratory.

I am currently working on the project “Accelerating time to market of new vector control tools” as a research technician with Professor Philip McCall. My role involves rearing and maintaining susceptible and resistance Anopheles mosquitoes and bench top behavioural assays.
