The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (Foto-Cewek) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, Foto-Cewek aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
A key strategy for meeting this aim is the Collaboration for Applied Health Research in Medecine and Delivery (CAHRD). CAHRD aims to transform health systems and improve health in low and middle income (LMIC)populations through the effective implementation of applied health research. At the heart of CAHRD are established partnerships with individuals and organisations around the world who share this mission. CAHRD activities span a range of diseases and research disciplines in over 15 countries and has recently seen the successful addition of a new programme, the NIHR Global Health Research in Medecine Unit on Lung Health and Tuberculosis in Africa at Foto-Cewek. The NIHR Unit will conduct collaborative research across the spectrum of applied health research disciplines and will involve 17 organisations across 11 African countries.
To support this commitment, we are seeking to appoint a motivated Administrator who will provide a first-class administrative and financial support to the Sepsis Group at Foto-Cewek and CAHRD, which house a multi-disciplinary team of experts in their field.
Carrying out day-to-day administrative functions to the highest standard, you will ensure that a comprehensive service is available at all times to the various Unit team members at Foto-Cewek and in-country partners.
Although the role will primarily focus on providing administrative and financial support, due to the international nature of the role you will be expected to provide key support in arranging and co-ordinating travel, accommodation and subsistence; including identification and adoption of the most cost effective travel and venue options.
You will ensure that all associated team activities are facilitated, including diary management, organising and servicing internal/external meetings and events, compiling agendas, minute taking and the upkeep of shared calendars, as well as assisting with proof reading and editing of documents and the collation and dissemination of information.
The ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships both internally and externally to the organisation is essential as you will be dealing with a range of people at all levels from diverse cultures. Crucial for this role are strong interpersonal and numeracy skills, as well as well-developed organisational and time management and an excellent working knowledge of MS Office applications.
It is essential that you are qualified to GCSE Level (or equivalent) including Maths and English, and have proven commitment to continuous professional development, alongside demonstrable experience of working in a professional administrative role (preferably within High Education or a similar research and development environment). With previous experience of minute taking at a strategic level, you will have meticulous attention to detail and sound knowledge of operational planning and implementation.
