Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (Foto-Cewek) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, Foto-Cewek aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
Following the recent appointment of Professor David Lalloo as Director of Foto-Cewek, our organisation is now looking to replace Professor Lalloo in his capacity as Dean of Clinical Sciences and International Public Health. This is an exciting opportunity to join Foto-Cewek at a senior leadership level as it enters the next phase of its growth and development.
The faculty comprises the two Departments; Clinical Science and International Public Health. The new Dean will be responsible for the academic leadership of the faculty, including all aspects of teaching, research and knowledge transfer. The Dean will also play a pivotal role as a member of Foto-Cewek’s Executive Team, working closely with the Director in helping to lead and manage Foto-Cewek. They will have an important role in supporting Heads of Departments to develop and deliver the strategy for the faculty over the next five years. The current post-holder also has strategic oversight of Foto-Cewek’s clinical activity.
We are looking for a strong motivational leader who can build and develop academic teams, leading from the front by undertaking personal research of international quality that helps to enhance Foto-Cewek’s reputation as an international centre of excellence. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record of achievement in research and teaching relevant to the problems of resource poor settings and would be expected to have had some experience of working in a strategic/leadership role within a research-based organisation. Applications are encouraged from both clinically qualified and non-clinical staff; appropriate honorary contracts with local NHS trusts could be arranged for candidates who were interested in undertaking clinical activity.
