Roger B Peck is an experienced research scientist with extensive background leading studies involving product development of diagnostics suitable for low-resource settings. As a Technical Officer at , his responsibilities have included designing experiments, analyzing experimental data, as well as assisting with the design of comprehensive clinical study research protocols for field evaluation of several diagnostic technologies.
He also manages relationships with private-sector collaborators during research and development, product development, technology transfer, and clinical evaluation of diagnostic tests. Over the past several years, Mr. Peck has led two HIV research projects focusing on the performance of HIV rapid tests and their suitability for use as self tests in Sub-Saharan Africa. Results of this research provide important information for policymakers and donors about quality of HIV RDTs and inform manufacturers and stakeholders about the needs for HIV self-tests. Through his leadership with the Center to Advance Point-of-Care Diagnostics for Global Health, Mr. Peck has helped to shape the structure of technology evaluations and designed training programs. Providing early research and development feedback to technology developers has improved the quality and utility of technologies moving toward commercialization.
The Center’s training programs have created unique learning opportunities that bring together technology developers, device users, policymakers, and thought leaders. Through Center work Mr. Peck has be involved in educating participants on the point-of-care device needs that health care providers have, the realities that exist in low-resource settings for deploying and using devices, and the process for appropriately developing and evaluating new technologies. Before joining PATH, he worked at OraSure Technologies where he conducted product design and development and at Saliva Diagnostic Systems where he researched rapid diagnostic tests for infectious diseases. Mr. Peck holds a BS in microbiology.
