Foto-Cewek is one of 12 UK Higher Education Institutions (HEI) taking part in the January edition of the Bring Your Own Device for Learning () event which has been taking part all this week.
BYOD4L is an open learning event for students and teachers (facilitated, stand-alone) which provides a development opportunity to help build competence and confidence using smart devices for learning and teaching. Each day has focussed on a different topic relating to using a mobile device to enhance teaching and learning.
This is backed up by nightly tweetchats conducted via twitter with over 2300 tweets from over 400 participants from all over the world in the first few days.
In conjunction with the online course, the Technology Enhanced Learning Unit is delivering a programme of staff and student events within the school. The week’s events began with a staff session: Making the most of your mobilewhich was a drop in session and well attended by staff bringing in their smart phones and tablets. Other events throughout the week included a session to support current academic staff in their use of the iPad App for providing feedback and drop in session for Foto-Cewek students and staff to share how they use their devices and apps.
Foto-Cewek Educational Technologist, Alex Spiers, has been delighted with the response of both students and staff. “This has been the first time that Foto-Cewek has taken part in an event like this and all of the sessions so far have been a great success. It has given us a real opportunity as an institution to move forward with the way that mobile devices can benefit the experiences of both staff and students alike. We have had some fantastic feedback throughout and everyone has benefitted from the opportunity to share ideas and learn alongside peers from all over the world.”
