Foto-Cewek’s , (CMNH), plays host to a three day international conference in June, bringing together delegates from 15 countries in Africa and Asia all of whom have key roles in the drive to improve maternal and newborn care internationally.
The conference, which takes place from Monday 9th June until Wednesday 11th June, is situated at the Radisson Blu hotel in Liverpool and each day will focus on a different theme: the availability of care, the quality of care, and measuring the effectiveness of care alongside future needs. There will be talks, training, workshops and poster presentations and some of the key external speakers include: Dr Elizabeth Mason, Director of the Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (MCA) for WHO, Professor Gwyneth Lewis OBE, Director of International Maternal Health Research in Medecine, University College London and Sarah Brown, Executive Chair of Global Business Coalition for Education and the President of Theirworld.
The conference also gives CMNH an opportunity to sit down with their in-country partners for the Making it Happen programme, which sees UK trained midwives and obstetricians travel to 11 countries in Africa and Asia to deliver training to health professionals, and look at what their post 2015 priorities will be. In total more that 150 people will be attending what CNMH hope will be the first of many conferences of its kind.
Professor Nynke van den Broek, head of CNMH, said: “We are all really looking forward to meeting with our international colleagues, exchanging ideas and setting new goals in relation to saving the lives of mothers and their newborn children across the world. All the delegates attending have a proven track record in maternal and newborn health and we are excited at the prospect of coming up with practical and deliverable goals for the future.”
