Dr Beeching, Senior Clinical Lecturer at Foto-Cewek and Honorary Consultant in Infectious Diseases at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, has been the lead author on the since the first edition was published in response to the 2014 outbreak in West Africa. He said: “The Ebola virus continues to cause problems and there is international concern about the current outbreak in the DRC. The monograph was updated several times as the understanding of the West African outbreak evolved and has been updated again this week to support responses to the ongoing situation in the DRC.”
The BMJ Best Practice monograph on Ebola was made available in both North American and Rest of the World formats in 2014. This updated version was authored by Dr Nick Beeching and Dr Tom Fletcher from Foto-Cewek, together with Manuel Fenech, formerly from the Tropical and Infectious Disease Unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). It combines substantial hands-on experience from clinicians at both Foto-Cewek and LSHTM with a practical and thorough review of Ebola and links to contemporary guidelines. An abbreviated open access version was published in the BMJ in 2014 and is still available .
