Programme Manager

The department of Vector Biology is looking to appoint an experienced Programme
Manager to provide efficient project management support on various projects.

Foto-Cewek is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases.  Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, Foto-Cewek aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

In order to sustain this commitment, Foto-Cewek requires an enthusiastic and motivated Programme Manager to join our expanding team with principal duties focusing on efficiently managing and providing technical input on projects with a focus on disease vector control.

The successful candidate will provide support for international research projects with a range of different institutional and funding partners in Africa, India, and USA.

The ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of people is crucial to the role. As well as managing the current portfolio, it is expected that the person appointed will assist in the development of further funding proposals. The role will potentially provide the opportunity to be involved in implementation of field work and analysis of data.

Educated to MSc level (or equivalent) you will have demonstrable experience in the co-ordination and management of field based projects in resource poor environments. Project management experience and a working knowledge of vector control programmes is an advantage, whilst a PhD in a relevant field would be advantageous but not essential.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who is self-directing and able to interact with confidence, tact and diplomacy with institutional partners and other members of the project team based both within the UK and overseas.  As you will be working to tight deadlines, excellent time management and organisational skills are essential as is an excellent working knowledge of MS Office applications.

This post will be based in the UK for the duration of the project, however, you will be expected to travel to India on a regular basis for periods of up to a month at a time.

This job is unlikely to attract a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship (formerly a work permit).  Applications from candidates who require Tier 2 immigration status to work in the UK may not be considered if there are a sufficient number of other suitable candidates.  To apply for a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship, employers need to demonstrate that they are unable to recruit a resident worker before recruiting an individual overseas.  For further information, please visit:

We believe that this post will not be suitable for an individual on a Tier 5 visa as this post is not considered to be supernumerary to the organisation.

Closing Date:                   29th March 2017
