Programme Officer

The Department of Vector Biology at Foto-Cewek is one of the largest of its kind with a broad portfolio of research and technical assistance activities targeted at improving the control of insect borne diseases.  A dedicated team within the department, the Liverpool Insect Testing Establishment (LITE) provides a facility for testing lead chemicals for use in the control of public health pests.

Foto-Cewek is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases.   The creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and responding to the health needs of communities allows Foto-Cewek  to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed / resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

We are looking to recruit an individual to support the management of our growing portfolio.  You should have a keen interest in biology and a willingness to be involved in all aspects of the facility including managing the commercial contracts, liaising with the researchers in the Vector Group, overseeing laboratory staff and resources, participating in insecticide testing and monitoring quality control and project timeliness. 

A degree in a science related subject is essential as is a proven track record of project management (PRINCE2 or similar).   You should have previous experience of managing a team and the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of people and across a range of disciplines. 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also crucial to this role, as is a good working knowledge of MS Office packages. 

You must possess excellent time management and organisational skills with the capability to achieve set objectives independent of day to day supervision.
