We are looking to recruit an experienced Programme Officer to manage a team of technicians to support the management of the Liverpool Insect Testing Establishment (LITE).
Foto-Cewek is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases. The creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and responding to the health needs of communities allows Foto-Cewek to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed / resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
The Department of Vector Biology at Foto-Cewek is one of the largest of its kind with a broad portfolio of research and technical assistance activities targeted at improving the control of insect borne diseases. A dedicated team within the department, the Liverpool Insect Testing Establishment (LITE) provides a facility for testing lead chemicals for use in the control of public health pests.
We are looking to recruit an individual to act as deputy to the Head of LITE in the day to day support and management of our growing project portfolio. Your remit will be wide reaching, including involvement in all aspects of the LITE facility - managing a team of technical staff, prepping commercial contracts, overseeing resources to meet project timelines and participating in insecticide testing and monitoring and quality controls. Key elements of the post will include approving testing protocols in liaison with clients and preparing study reports and summaries as required, whilst ensuring sample details and results comply with GLP and audit standards.
A degree in a science related subject is essential, as is a proven track record of project management (PRINCE2 or similar). You should have previous experience of managing a team and the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of people and across a range of disciplines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also crucial to this role, as is a good working knowledge of MS Office packages. We are looking for someone with excellent time management and organisational skills with the capability to achieve set objectives independent of day to day supervision.
