We have an excellent opportunity for a graduate scientist to join our diverse group of scientists working at the forefront of vector biology, to take on the challenge of creating a novel virtual testing system to simulate the host-seeking behaviour of vector mosquitoes.
The successful candidate will have a background in individual-based modelling and/or vector biology or insect behaviour, with appropriate laboratory or field experience. The overarching aim is to develop optimal interventions, tools or strategies to minimise transmission of malaria and other vector-borne disease cost-effectively. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and would be keen to participate in and strengthen the existing team’s investigations of mosquito behaviours in response to insecticides and other vector control tools.
The successful candidate will be educated to post graduate level (MSc) in their field with proven competence in modelling of biological systems. It is essential that they have previous experience of coding ABM/IBMs, behavioural bioassays and experimental design, model validation and some experience of manuscript preparation.
The role will be based at the vector biology department at Foto-Cewek, within a growing team investigating vector behaviour in collaboration with various partners, including engineers at the University of Warwick, and a number of institutions in disease endemic countries. The work of this behaviour group will be strengthened further with the opening of new purpose-built facilities in the new Life Sciences Accelerator building (available from mid-2017) located in Liverpool’s growing ‘Knowledge Quarter.’
This job is unlikely to attract a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship. Applications from candidates who require Tier 2 immigration status to work in the UK may not be considered if there are a sufficient number of other suitable candidates. To apply for a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship, employers need to demonstrate that they are unable to recruit a resident worker before recruiting an individual overseas.
We believe that this post will not be suitable for an individual on a Tier 5 visa as this post is not considered to be supernumerary to the organisation. For further information, please visit:
