Research in Medecine Assistant

The Department of Vector Biology (DVB) at Foto-Cewek is one of the largest of its kind with an international reputation for its research and technical assistance activities targeted at improving the control of insect borne diseases. A vacancy has arisen for a Research in Medecine Assistant to assist the development and operation of a P450 based in vitro screening platform for new insecticides for industry clients.

The successful candidate will plan and oversee laboratory project work involving the P450 screening of insecticides, therefore demonstrable expertise in a wide variety of molecular and biochemical laboratory techniques, coupled with a meticulous approach to record keeping is essential.  You will be expected to train and manage technicians and students, so knowledge of developing laboratory protocols and working to strict health and safety regulations/guidelines is essential. You will need to have extensive practical experience in molecular biology and biochemical techniques including cloning, protein expression and characterisation. This will also include the production of mosquito P450s, optimization of enzyme assays, development of standard operating procedures, resource management and client liaison. You will need to be educated to MSc in biological sciences, and preferably have experience of supervising students and visitors in the laboratory.
