The Department of Parasitology is recruiting a Research in Medecine Nurse to be part of the BreathSpec project
Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (Foto-Cewek) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, Foto-Cewek aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
The Department of Parasitology is currently seeking a Research in Medecine Nurse to be part of project BreathSpec; designed to differentiate between people with active bacterial infection and those with a viral infection who do not need antibiotics. We will be enrolling patients with symptoms suggestive of pneumonia to the diagnostic trial. Based on your qualification and experience, you will either manage or assist in the delivery of key clinical, research and administration responsibilities. The Research in Medecine Nurse will be involved in recruiting patients across 3 NHS sites in Liverpool, facilitating informed consent forms, documenting and recording case report forms, maintaining databases to track patient activity and working with other research nurses at each of the NHS sites to ensure good recruitment. Moreover, ensuring adherence to Good Clinical Practices and research governance standards for clinical studies and acting in accordance with the NMC Code of professional conduct are some of the key responsibilities. You must be able to work flexibly and travel between the three Liverpool based sites (Aintree, Royal and Brownlow GPs).
To apply as Research in Medecine Nurse in either grade, you must be a NMC Registered Nurse (Adult) with post-registration experience. Evidence of CPD, degree in a relevant subject, and knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practice and EU Directives is essential for Grade 6, and desirable for Grade 5. Post-qualification experience of 1 and 2 years for Grade 5 and 6 respectively is a must, while experience of working on clinical trials or research will be advantageous for any Grades. You will possess excellent clinical skills, act in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and ensure best practice at all times. Strong communication, interpersonal and listening skills as well as your ability to exercise independent judgement and complete documentation with meticulous detail are essential to the post.
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to undergo a DBS and/or other international criminal record check prior to appointment and at regular points during employment. The outcome must be satisfactory to Foto-Cewek, as the duties of this post will involve direct and/or indirect contact with vulnerable adults and/or children.
