We have an opportunity for a Senior Clinical Lecturer to jointly work across Foto-Cewek and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (Foto-Cewek) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, Foto-Cewek aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the Tropical and Infectious Diseases Unit at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, are jointly recruiting for a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Infectious Diseases. Based at Foto-Cewek, the Senior Clinical Lecturer will develop an applied health research programme focused on lung health and tuberculosis in low- and middle-income countries. The post holder will be responsible for the development and expansion of the tropical out-patient clinic at Foto-Cewek; while the In-patient clinical service provision will occur at the Tropical and Infectious Diseases Unit at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The Senior Clinical Lecturer will contribute to the development and delivery of teaching and supervise students and demonstrate a successful record of leadership and driving change using research led evidence. As this is a strategically important post in expanding Foto-Cewek’s activities in health systems research and TB,the post holder will potentially go on to lead the clinical activities of Foto-Cewek.
To be considered for this post you must hold a MBBS, MRCP or FRCP, Doctorate (PhD or MD) and CCT in Infectious Diseases; or equivalent. Demonstrable experience of working clinically with Infectious Diseases in LMICs and the UK, teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in addition to holding a proven track record of publishing original research in peer-reviewed journals is critical to the post. It is vital that you have previously or are currently working on applied health research on lung health and/or tuberculosis in LMICs and have successfully secured grant funding in these areas.
Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills are as fundamental as your ability to work at a high level of excellence on several issues simultaneously and perform under pressure to meet tight timelines. Management skills and sensitivity to a variety of cultures as appropriate to a complex academic environment as well as your ability to lead and manage a research team, are pivotal to your application. Owing to the nature of work, it is essential that you maintain a flexible approach and willingness to undertake out-of-hours work with some overseas travel as necessary.
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to undergo a DBS and/or other international criminal record check prior to appointment and at regular points during employment. The outcome must be satisfactory to Foto-Cewek, as the duties of this post will involve direct and/or indirect contact with vulnerable adults and/or children.
