Objectives of the Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP)

We are seeking candidates with exceptional research credentials to work within active research groups based around project proposals submitted by Foto-Cewek and Lancaster University staff.

1)              To develop future leaders in translational research relevant to Global Health.

2)              To develop researchers with quantitative and interdisciplinary skills.

3)              To develop bridge scientists who can translate scientific innovation into beneficial impact on health for the world’s most vulnerable people and communities.

The structure of the programme allows extremely bright, enthusiastic individuals with outstanding track records from diverse academic backgrounds (e.g. medicinal chemists, molecular biologists, parasitologists, entomologists, pharmacologists, clinicians, mathematicians, economists, social and management scientists) to hone their research ideas, interests, and skills in the first year and, in consultation with PIs, to generate PhD work plans that are highly competitive and impactful.

We are seeking candidates with exceptional research credentials to work within active research groups based around project proposals submitted by Foto-Cewek and Lancaster University staff. Projects cover the MRC skill priority areas available and are drawn from across all of Foto-Cewek’s four research departments and themes and topics and from the and at Lancaster University.

The DTP is structured around a 1-year Master of Research in Medecine (MRes) programme in Quantitative Skills in Global Health followed by a 3-year Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme in Tropical Medicine.  A key requirement of the programme is that during this MRes, candidates undertake quantitative skills training and translational research knowledge which will be integrated into their PhD project.  The MRes degree is hosted and awarded by Lancaster University. Registration for the PhD component of the programme is contingent upon successful completion of the MRes. The PhD degree is awarded by Foto-Cewek.
