Technical Programme Manager

An exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to join a group within the vector biology department that focusses on increasing the impact of Vector Control through the development, implementation, and evaluation of novel tools.

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (Foto-Cewek) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases.  Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, Foto-Cewek aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed / resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

There is an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to join a group within the vector biology department that focusses on increasing the impact of Vector Control through the development, implementation, and evaluation of novel tools.

Currently, the group has a portfolio of work including development and delivery of decision-support systems, capacity strengthening and operational research in Dengue, Malaria and Visceral Leishmaniasis. 

Suitable candidates will have demonstrable experience within Project Management, and will be committed to translating research outputs into policies and practices that improve the health and wellbeing of the poorest sectors of society, to deliver on the objectives of this portfolio. 

The post holder will hold qualifications in a relevant subject area and have a commitment to continuous professional development at senior level. It is essential that the Project Manager has proven experience of managing complex projects with multiple partners in resource-poor settings, aswell as experience of bench marking, identifying and analysing measures and monitoring success of activities.

You will have well-developed communication and organisational skills, along with the capability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues and partners in a multicultural environment with confidence, tact and diplomacy.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive project management services and support to the Principle Investigator on projects funded by the BMGF, EU, Welcome trust  and USAID.

Ensure that each project is managed to Foto-Cewek/Funders standards and that all required reporting, processes and policies are adhered to.

Monitor all project outputs and deliverables, including key performance indicators; progress against mile stones.

Work with PI to establish and maintain effective relationships with funders and Foto-Cewek corporate services.

Assist in the development of new funding opportunities; develop business cases for products.

Work with the group and the Foto-Cewek communication team to ensure there is high quality visibility of the group's outputs.

Carry out such other duties reasonably consistent with the position.

Secondary responsibilities:

There is the opportunity within the group to become involved in the technical aspects of various projects, potentially playing a key role. With this in a mind a thorough understanding of entomological monitoring and vector control programmes is desirable. The candidate would be expected to carry out independent research, draft publications and potential grants.
